COASTAL SENTINELS

This body of work represents my view of our coastline as seen and experienced by a newcomer to Canada. Over the past twenty years, I have made hundreds of landscape paintings based on my travels to traditional and ancestral Coast Salish and Nuu-chah-nulth lands. The images I created in the process were born from my love for the country, and my need to connect with the land that accepted me as an immigrant in 1994 when I was twenty-nine.

Although my paintings focus on the pristine, tactile, and subconscious experience of the beach, they are a reminder of what may be lost for future generations through the effects of global warming, pollution, misuse, and deforestation. My work is an expression of the ideas of homeland, gratitude, and optimism for a better future.
